Online dating movies reflect modern tendencies and trend in the Internet, i.e. appearance of online dating services. They help people from all the world to be closer and find each other. Due to globalization, the world has changed into "global village", the Internet has already reduced the distances among people.

The directors have received a great niche that may be filled for a long time. The theme is new and modern; it gives many plots and stories that can be interpreted in absolutely opposite ways.

One of the first famous online dating movies is You've Got Mail. It was released in 1998. One man and one woman began to communicate via email. They tell each other about their problems and thoughts, share plans and aspirations without saying any  facts about themselves (names, place of work, address etc). In real life, these two people know each other, they meet every day, but they are enemies and competitors. The man has opened a great bookstore that made the woman to close her little one. They don't bear each other, but at online dating site they are friends. The film ends with their meeting and beginning romantic relationship.

Euro Trip (2004) is also one of the online dating movies; it is a youth comedy. The main character from the USA has found a beautiful girl from Europe (Germany) by means of online dating services. He communicates with her sending emails; once he receives an invitation to meet, but his younger brother decides that this person is a man because the nickname was Mike (tip: it is better not to have such ambiguous nicknames in one's profile to avoid the similar misunderstanding in future). The hero rejects the invitation but afterward he finds out that Mike is she. He and his friends go to Europe to find this girl, but the way turns out to be long and funny.

Among others online dating movies are Napoleon Dynamite (2003), Must Love Dogs (2005), Another Gay Movie (2006), Because I Said So (2007).
